John Monteath

Artist blacksmith John Monteath has designed and created architectural ironwork and metal sculpture in the Calgary area since 1996. Originally from a small farm in southern New Zealand, John moved to Calgary in 1995, where he was able to pursue his passion for creative blacksmithing and combine that with a burgeoning interest in sculpture, design and architecture. In 2003, John co-founded Manuka Forge, where he designs and creates highly customized, hand crafted wrought iron pieces using hot forging, traditional and modern blacksmithing techniques, and repoussé work. Often incorporating copper and bronze, he now creates architectural and sculptural commissions for local and international clients.
