Designer/object maker Rebecca Asquith is based in Wellington, New Zealand where she produces contemporary furniture and lighting objects.
Rebecca is of mixed Maori and European decent (Ati Awa, Taranaki) and grew up in the small coastal village of Waitara, Taranaki. Instead of studying for a University degree Rebecca trained as a model maker at Weta Workshop on The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Over the years Rebecca has been making an active transition from the film industry into furniture, lighting and object design.
Craving to work on her own designs full time, Rebecca has made the leap and after 12 years of working in the film industry is now full time tinkering in her own workshop. Fundamental to her design ethos is the creation of high quality innovative design objects that use eco-friendly and high quality sustainable materials. Rebecca’s respect for the natural environment is deep and nature is where she draws her inspiration from for her designs.
Rebecca crafts her objects using responsible design to minimize waste, allow for ease of separation of materials for repair and recycling, use recycled and eco friendly materials, and designing work to collapse for ease of transport and the reduction of packaging materials.
Rebecca is passionate about preserving the natural environment and making thought provoking, innovative and inspiring beautiful objects that people can cherish and hand down.
