Media: Blacksmithing
I spend most of my time pounding iron in my blacksmith shop out on my family‘s farm out in the middle of nowhere. I first started blacksmithing when I was 16 and I never expected it to become anything more than just a hobby. That was 10 years ago now. Overtime one project led to another which led to a few more, which led to me starting up a business, and now I’m doing it somewhat professionally. Most people aren’t used to the idea of iron being workable like clay although that’s exactly how I work iron. Of course I have to get the iron red hot for it to be pliable. At that temperature there’s no hope of shaping it with your hands so it is done with a hammer at the anvil. Most of my work is a combination of functional and sculptural. Items that serve a purpose and look darn good doing it.
