Born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, I have taken a roundabout path to my life as a woodworker and knife maker in the Prairies. After a bachelor’s in chemical engineering and a MBA in finance I found the corporate world did not fulfill my need for creativity and hands on experience and searched for something more.

My passion for woodworking began with an introductory course at our local civic arts center. I found a new sense of peace and fulfillment and followed this with a journey of self-learning and all the extra courses I could manage. I now make fine furniture and revel in transforming the vision in my head into a piece of functional art in my home. As my hobbies tend to evolve over time, I expanded into the art of knife making where I craft raw steel into a functional pieces of art.

I am now delighted to be an instructor at the same art center it all began, the Neil Balkwill Center, where I have the privilege of teaching others the joy of woodworking.
